About Healthy Families New York
Healthy Families New York (HFNY) is an evidence-based home visiting program offering services to expecting parents and new families who are at risk of child abuse and neglect. Services include educating families on parenting and child development; connecting families with medical providers for prenatal/well-baby visits and immunizations; assessing children for developmental delays; assisting parents to work toward goals for themselves and their children; and helping families access community referral resources and services.
HFNY is a comprehensive prevention program that focuses on the safety of children while at the same time supports families. The services are accessible to isolated at risk families and are respectful of cultural and community diversity.
Services are provided by staff who are specially trained to work with families in a positive, supportive manner, building on parents’ strengths. Services help parents to develop strong, positive relationships with their children and to encourage their children’s optimal development. Services are sponsored by public and private agencies located within the community being served.
The program's goals:
- Promote positive parent-child bonding and relationships
- Prevent child abuse and neglect
- Promote optimal child and family health, development, and safety
- Enhance family self-sufficiency
